<p>Todays consumers are changing the way they accept advertisements. The Hispanic community is no different. While the present economic circumstances call for more creative and innovative advertising techniques marketing to the Hispanic community proves to be an area that remains open for growth. <p>The Hispanic demographic is the largest minority group in the US according to Jupiter Research. It is important to note that Hispanics will experience the fastest population growth through 2013. Household size is estimated to grow from 13.1 million in 2007 to 15.6 million in 20131. And Jupiter Research forecasts online retail spending within this group will grow to 21.6 billion by 2011 representing the largest increase of all online ethnic groups2.</p>
<p>Also important to note is that the Hispanic community is more than just one group. Within their demographic there are many smaller subdivisions that must be researched. <p>When I was studying theatre at CarnegieMellon there was a classmate who had a famous father an opera singer well known in Europe. He was very talented and had a huge following. I heard this story about one of his opening nights while performing in a Wagnerian Opera.</p>
<p>Always friendly and outgoing the tenor was chatting with someone backstage when the orchestra started playing and in the darkness the curtain went up. Obviously he was preoccupied with telling a joke or some story when there was a hush over the audience total silence. Then the orchestra stopped and suddenly hilarity. Everybody was screaming with laughter. Looking out at the almost empty stage he realized too late that he had missed his entrance on the back of a HUGE SWAN. Without missing a beat he turned to the stage manager and asked Whens the next Swan?</p>
<p>Often when I speak to actors I mention our upcoming NY or LA ActorMarathons or our Sitcom Film Commercial bootcamps taught by celebrity guest directors Im always amazed that so many have to think about it for a while or they ask the question Whens the next one? </p>
<p>I wonder if they really WANT to be successful working actors or if they just want to keep doing the same old same old having a day job and putting off attaining their real career. </p>
<p>What is it that keeps good talented actors from achieving success?? <br />Not lack of talent or training. Theres plenty of that out there. Is it fear poverty mentality or just the disbelief that a specific opportunity would really make a difference? I dont believe its fear. If somebody really wants something they overcome the fear whether its asking someone out on a date or cutting off their long hair. And its not lack of funds. If someone really wants something theyll find the money. Ive even had actors tell me that they couldnt afford good headshots because they had booked a vacation to the Caribbean. Somehow they found the money for the trip but not for necessary marketing tools. Gee! Priorities were off there!</p>
<p>I think the reason that good actors are not successful is a perception that they have a lot of time that opportunities are plentiful and that theyll stay young forever. PROCRASTINATION. Oh NEXT year Ill go to LA to get work on a primetime show. Ill get a demo reel in six months when I save some money. Ill get around to taking that class next semester. Theres an assumption that everything is on hold for them that nothing ever changes. This is an incorrect assumption. Its also the assumption of people who never get what they want out of life. Somehow they just miss the boat or the swan because they dont make a COMMITTMENT. </p>
<p>Winners are able to make decisions FAST. They can see the possibilities in every opportunity so they get to that audition hop on that plane get therethey find a way! They COMMIT. And they have their lives set up so they can go forward. In short they have their ducks in a row. </p>
<p>How do you set up your life so that you can be a winner? What DUCKS did you need to get in a row?</p>
<p>These are the 6 things WINNERS seem to have in common:</p>
<p>1 A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE thats pleasant clean NEAT and SAFE. Create an office a place where you can have a computer database and marketing tools. You are your own oneperson business.</p>
<p>2 A SYSTEM of consistent communication with the Industry. That means that every week you DO something to further your career: a class a professional meeting a selfsubmission updating your tools shooting a new demo reel. WORK daily at building a career.</p>
<p>3 A CONSISTENT INCOME from a day or evening job to pay for marketing tools classes and still allow the availability for auditions. If youre broke and desperate when you go to an audition youve already lost the job.<br />I cant begin to tell you the number of actors Ive met who are always broke cant afford to get the tools they need or meet the top agents who could change their career/LIFE! What are they thinking??</p>
<p>4 Good PERSONAL HABITS staying physically and mentally healthybeing happy and optimistic: daily exercise eating properly getting enough sleep. Maybe your 95er friends are able to party all weekend and show up at their offices Monday morning tired hung over. It may not make any difference to them they have a guaranteed weekly check. But you may have the audition of a lifetime! Looking great for that audition and having energy to spare may make the difference between a major career break and unemployment. You cant afford to blow it. You need to COMMIT to yourself to always be in top form.</p>
<p>5 A MENTOR someone to advise encourage and inspire. Absolutely no successful person got there ALONE. Everyone needs encouragement and advice. </p>
<p>6 A PLAN goals for the short term and long term and a schedule to carry them out. This includes further training networking with industry contacts auditioning for everything you can developing as an actor by getting into as many shows and performance groups as possible whether youre paid or not. Revise your plan monthly. If a market or goal isnt working change it or change your location tools approach. Get advice!</p>

<p>Until I got married I believed that everyone was &#8220;wired&#8221; the same way. OK I was young and nave. Case in point: My husband and I have an ongoing debate over a box of crackers in the pantry. It&#8217;s been sitting there unopened for a few weeks. My husband says food is to be eaten. I say you need to have some things on hand in case company drops by. To his credit we haven&#8217;t had company drop in unannounced in over three years! Nevertheless I was raised to keep a bit extra on hand. So I like to ration things. Which makes me the perfect person I believe to talk about how to squeeze the most out of your marketing budget. As the selfappointed queen of frugal I was born for this kind of economy! So here and in the next issue I&#8217;ll review several things you can do to get the most out of rationed marketing dollars.</p>
<p><strong>Press Releases:</strong> I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve heard this advice before. Write Press releases. They&#8217;re free and they&#8217;re easy. If you&#8217;re not sure how to write one here&#8217;s a <strong><a rel="nofollow" href="http://patpricespeaks.com/Press Release template.pdf">PR template</a></strong> you can use. So my question is this. If you already know that it makes sense how often do you write them? I&#8217;ll bet this is one area that you can improve upon. So your action item for next week is to write one!</p>
<p><strong>Networking:</strong> Now more than ever you need to be visible. If you&#8217;ve got more time on your hands because of the down economy there&#8217;s no reason not to &#8220;see and be seen&#8221;. Connect with as many people as possible who can help you advance your efforts. You&#8217;ll find new opportunities new leads and potential partners. Your action item: Think of two people prospects clients or potential partners who could be helpful to you. Reach out to them in the next week. Also attend one networking event. And don&#8217;t forget to get involved with online social networking. I highly recommend LinkedIn as a great place to start read my ezine for more info. If you&#8217;re already online login and update your file. One simple thing to do is update your &#8220;what I&#8217;m working on&#8221; section. It can be one sentence. And that change will goes out to your entire network. What a simple way to stay visible!</p>
<p><strong>Manage your customer list</strong>: One of the most valuable assets of any company is its contact list. How well are you managing that asset? If you&#8217;re the type who has stacks of business cards from networking events now&#8217;s the time to do something with them! Pitch them or put them into your database. Don&#8217;t have a database? Create one. Don&#8217;t let the term scare you. A database is merely a collection of data. In this case it&#8217;s a compilation of all of your contact information. Most people use Microsoft Outlook or Excel if they don&#8217;t want to get sophisticated. The beauty of these is that you can later import them into an email system which I&#8217;ll discuss in the next section.</p>
<p>If you already have a contact system now is a good time to categorize your contacts. Get your prospect and customer lists separated organized and segmented. Perhaps there are customers who haven&#8217;t purchased a particular service yet. They could be in a category for a special promotion. Separate prospects into groups more apt to need specific services you offer. With the delineation you can now get more laserlike in sending specific offers to people on your mailing list. I highly recommend using one of the many popular services for sending email. An email system like Constant Contact or Vertical Response provides several benefits. First you don&#8217;t have to manage your customer lists. If an email to a recipient bounces the system is smart enough to know not to send it the next time. If a subscriber optsout you have to have this option your email system automatically removes them from your mailing list. There&#8217;s no action required on your part. Also they have wonderful statistics that show you how many people open clicked through and what they clicked on etc. You can also use one of their design templates if you don&#8217;t want to create something from scratch. The cost is minimal for all of the time and energy saved. For 10 you can send hundreds of emails. It sure beats the cost of postage!</p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t already have an electronic newsletter ezine you may want to consider starting one. Don&#8217;t worry if you don&#8217;t like to write. There are plenty of sites online with good content available for your use. You can also email offers and promotions. But take it to the next level. If you&#8217;ve scrubbed your contact list as suggested above make sure you have names in addition to email addresses. Start to insert your prospect&#8217;s name into the email. It&#8217;s the latest trend in email marketing. A study by The Aberdeen Group found that there was a 57 increase in average order value when the message was personalized.</p>

<p>I am now going to go over the key aspects of marketing a website online. It usually bounces around but has stayed on the first page for quite a while now and I did it in three months following some of the most basic principals. Lets begin when you start marketing a website it is imperative that you keep in your head that your website is new and you will not reach the top in google the first day or second or third in fact unless you are an expert in online marketing you will not even be indexed into google&#8217;s index for the first two or three weeks. The biggest reason that webmasters give up is they feel like all of their hard work went for nothing. This is nottrue if every day for weeks on end you get up and work pretty much pretending like it is any other job you will fair decently. So let me give you some realistic time frames for when your website will be indexed by google and yahoo. For google the deep crawl occurs about once a month so within a full month of you working and placing your link all over the web especially in the social bookmarking websites you should realistically be indexed by google within a month. Now for yahoo expect at least a wait of 6 weeks they are not nearly as advanced as google so most of your concentration should be on gaining good ranking within the SERPs of google.</p>
<p>To get indexed I recommend visiting a couple of websites. Social bookmarking is a good way to start so stick with digg andtechnoratiboth of which are excellent for gaining visitors and much more importantly when beginning getting the google bot to look at your website. Another good thing to do when you are trying to get noticed by google is a press release and you can do that for free using this service prlog I have really found it helpful and have gained a decent amount of traffic from it.</p>
<p>Now you have been picked up by google the real work begins which consists of building links and making a name for yourself within your niche. The most important thing is to never stop learning whether it be about your niche or being a webmaster. A couple of excellent forums I use to learn about marketing and other webmaster topics is v7n forums and Digital Point Forums if you search for either of these they will come up in google. I have found three reasons to join these forums the first being building relationships with other webmasters which can help you advertise building backlinks which is the fundamental basis in which gives the internet the power is has today and traffic which I think I get the most from Digital Point. Anyway get on these forums and participate often make sure to ask alot of questions. You should also get into forums releated with your niche so you will not only be getting backlinks they will be relevant.</p>
<p>Article writing should also be a very important aspect in your internet marketing campaign. There are a couple of reasons for this the first being it gives you a reasonable PR relevant backlink. Now the second reason may be even more important than the first since it is becoming recognized as an expert in your field. You need to write alot of good articles to get this respect but once you do so your word is golden.</p>
<p>Exchangin Links which is probably one of the oldest ways of gaining in the searchengines is still very usefull today. I like link marketit is a free website that you can exchange links within your niche. Now one of the most interesting thing is when I go to the forums some people recommend to not give away links saying one way linking is the best but when I go to link market and check out the PR of the websites these guys are doing much better than most of the people that do not like recipricol links. Anyway I have had very good experiance with trading links with relevant sites and I feel that link market is the reason for my sucess.</p>

<p>Does the stereotypical &#8220;soup kitchen&#8221; come to mind when you think a nonprofit? Well homeless shelters funded by a single church or wealthy individuals are out there but these have not been representative of the sector for many years. Bring on the promotional items! Regional or nationwide nonprofits need to promote themselves like any other big organization does. </p>
<p>A large charitable organization like the Red Cross looks a lot like a welloiled business machine. Does this mean that they need to approach promotional products the same way any forprofit business would? Yes and no. Context is king in marketing; one idea doesn&#8217;t meet the needs for everyone equally and this applies to a nonprofit organization as much as it would for anyone else.</p>
<p>One difference would be the availability of funds to spend on marketing efforts at a nonprofit. Thanks to things like profit money to spend on the less solid things like marketing and branding is more available. Budgets at nonprofits can end up very limited especially because the reputation of a nonprofit can be a huge factor in its success. Some nonprofits see it as a priority to keep the amount of money they spend towards &#8220;administrative costs&#8221; as low as possible. Critical to their reputation even. In the case of a charity how likely are you to give if they seem to spend half of their donations on themselves?</p>
<p>The usual guidelines you&#8217;d pay heed to when using promotional items in a business setting still apply to nonprofits. A trade show means keeping promotional items easy to carry but still attentiongetting. No will want to carry something around all day if the promotional products they&#8217;ve been given are heavy junk no matter how neat it is. Avoid the temptation to just toss money into purchasing any little trinket you can find either. Giving out an easy to carry but completely useless promotional item is just going to be a waste of money. Money that may more difficult to come by in a nonprofit environment!</p>
<p>Without the big financial safety net you might be tempted to play it safe in a nonprofit setting. Really though less room to maneuver might mean letting those creative juices flow and utilizing promotional items that others might not consider. Charities can attract a younger and creative group of employees or volunteers so it is important to tap into that creative resource. Take advantage of the fact that many people don&#8217;t look at nonprofits as a business which can mean more freedom. Picking a promotional item that might not be entirely professional could be a bigger benefit to a brand than a hindrance!</p>
<p>The nonprofit sector doesn&#8217;t have as much interaction with the promotional industry as it should. It is important to not write off the nonprofit sector as a source of potential clients if you&#8217;re a promotional items seller. They&#8217;re out there and they need your help! If you are a nonprofit the promotional items out there could be a critical contribution to getting some awareness out there and some contributions rolling in. Our sectors can mutually benefit one another and society as a whole.</p>
