4 Steadfast Keys To Marketing Success
4 Steadfast Keys To Marketing Success
Marketing is one of the most important activities you do for your business and yet its often relegated to a should do that just doesnt get done.
Sound familiar?
There are many reasons business owners avoid marketing from the self limiting belief I am no good at marketing to just not making the time. The keys to success are knowledge a winning mindset a compelling message and a wellcrafted marketing plan. Master these concepts and with a little practice untold marketing success can be yours.
Lets look at each of these:
Understand the Game of Marketing
Without understanding the rules its hard to play the game successfully. Marketing is a game so knowing the rules is critical. My friend Robert Middleton compares it to baseball with each base representing a stage in moving a stranger towards becoming a prospect and then a client. This is the belief system I use to help clients understand marketing. Knowing the fundamentals and thinking of it as a game helps remove the stress most business owners feel around marketing especially since this game provides an action guide to what the proper steps need to be. Less guessing means more confidence and more success.
The Right Marketing Mindset
Speaking of confidence the marketing mindset is one of the key factors in marketing success. Have you ever noticed how your self talk impacts the outcome of a project or task? What you think you can do you are more successful at than that which you think you cant do. If you believe you are no good at a task you often avoid it because none of us like to fail.
Is this just a selffulfilling prophecy? In many ways it is. Napoleon Hill author of Think and Grow Rich put it this way “What the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve”. For according to Hill 98 of people had no firm beliefs putting true success firmly out of reach.
Have a Clear and Compelling Marketing Message
Your core marketing message is key to attracting and interesting the right clients. When networking its your elevator pitch and on your website its your homepage; both require compelling marketing messages.
Successful copy needs to use few words to convey a lot of information as well as intrigue the prospect. It also needs to resonate with them on an emotional level and communicate that you get them and their business
A compelling marketing message focuses on the client so to begin crafting one you need to study your ideal client; know who they are and what they struggle with. From there its easy to craft your message to state how you are the solution to their problem.
Have an Actionable Plan
If you dont know where you are going where will you end up? Having a marketing plan is like creating a roadmap to your targets and goals. It also helps increase your confidence as it eliminates some of the guesswork of what to do next.
Following the principles of the game of marketing makes it easier to write your plan as the steps are already clearly defined.
I recommend keeping your marketing plans simple with a well written one pager that I liken to a recipe. Write your plan with enough detail so anyone can bake your marketing cake. That way you are building another good marketing habit creating a plan that is easily outsourced and followed by your staff or a virtual assistant freeing you up to focus on other things in your business or your tennis game!
